Work-Based Learning

HS students build valuable skills & professional networks

TPZ’s high school students have the opportunity to engage in work-based learning experiences that provide them the opportunity to build skills and gain qualifications while they support a local business.

Consult

During Consult, students build career-readiness skills as they serve as consultants for industry partners in the Boston area. Engaging in rigorous collaborative activities, client site visits, and group reflection, they practice and develop communication, growth mindset, teamwork, and STEAM agency while solving authentic social media-focused problems for their client. At the conclusion of Consult, teams of students craft and present a social media campaign strategy for the external partner. Recent Consult clients include Elaine Construction and Union Capital.

Intern

During this program, students apply for, participate in, and develop self-management, relationship skills, and growth mindset throughout an internship internally with TPZ staff. They receive support in applying for internships, practice for interviews, and have access to ongoing cohort-based and individual opportunities for meaning-making and reflection throughout their internship. Following their internship, students complete an updated resume capturing the key tasks and responsibilities from their internship and present a short slide deck on what they’ve done and learned throughout the program. Recent internship sites include the Sasaki Foundation, the Leah Project, and Bloomberg Arts.
